the boat ride to nuchatlizt island on bob's sweet homemade fishing boat called "nootka rose". paul woke me up in the hull. i was so safe and warm and sound asleep that i did not hear everyone on deck yelling 'whale'. somehow he heard them and woke me up. i wiggled out of the nook and ran up the stairs. as i peaked sleepily out of the front windows i saw it. right away it jumped up, all the way out of the water! this dark mass of a giant looking fish, this dear ancient mammal, fully breached the air. it's flukes suspended in the sky for a small moment as it dove back down into the water. bob said: "ah, it'll be down there for a while, it just went down deep for some fish." and he was right, i didn't see that whale again. but it was enough for one trip. only one of many dreams to be realized on the magical islands.thank you paul, ron, denise, bob, jan and keon.

Very cool post! I have a place in Tahsis that I visited every year for several months. Oyster Bob was a welcome face at the door on occasion when he was passing through! The nootka Rose is my all time favorite boat and my first boat ride adventure was to his place in Nuchatliz. Nice to see the pics of his place!
